How Often Should Cats Be Groomed?

Thursday, April 22, 2010

Persian cats : Grooming is imperative, we know that but how often is a question that confuses many cat owners. Many people consult their vets for cat grooming schedules and with many Persian cats - shaving is the end result.
Cat Grooming – What & How Often

  • Bathing – Persian cats should be bathed in general once a month. Bathing regularly can affect the coat, fur and health of Persian cats. Increasing the frequency of baths is recommended when showing. To remove dirt or tear stains use face powders and tear stain removers such as the Anna Line.
  • Brushing – Unlike bathing, brushing or actually combing definitely has to be done more often. Comb your Persian cat at least once a week- if not daily, esp in areas such as the arm pits and behind the ears. Brush/Comb gently and very carefully using specific brushes and combs for specific areas.
  • Nail Clipping – Clipping claws and nails is required no more than once in every two weeks. Cat nail clipping is important as it avoids scratches on the cat’s skin and yours too. back Nails grow a slight bit slower than the front- so watch the front nails the most!

So now you know and we hope you have been doing just that all along. If not then, it’s never too late to get back on the right track with cat rearing. Make cat grooming the best time for your Persian cats, get tools and cat grooming products from PurrinLot.com

P.S - It is also important to note that cat grooming for a show and right before a cat show are different and require their own regime altogether.

The Most Important Persian Cats Grooming Tool – Combs!

Thursday, February 25, 2010

You provide the perfect wholesome diet to Persian kittens, you use top quality cat shampoos, tear stain removers, follow the cat care manual religiously but still your pretty Persian isn’t kicking up a frenzy in any cat show or otherwise? Then you may be missing out on some grooming essential.  And that is the grooming Combs! Persian cats grooming routine isn’t half complete if they don’t include a nice and long combing session.

Before every bath it is essential to comb your Persian cat’s coat to avoid raking up knots later. Also when you are combing make sure that it is gentle and not a pull-your-hair-out session. Persian cats and kittens are usually very gentle, delicate and sensitive, so even little recklessness can cause a lot of trouble.

There are a variety of cat combs available depending on the area to be used. We have the wide tooth for the coat, the fine toothed for the face and bottom of the feet, etc. Go through the various combs available and buy one for your Persian Cat today!

  1. Wide Tooth Comb – About 7 ½ inches wide, this is also known as the Greyhound comb. This should be used over the entire body and ruff, gently. Never tug and pull. When you reach the tail, your combing action has to be extra-careful. Only the wide teeth end of the comb is suitable for the tail, never comb with the narrow end on the tail not even mistakenly.
  2. Narrow Fine Comb – Definitely not wide but narrow to comb out the face and the feet.
  3. Pin Brush – A pin brush without the end tips is perfect to pick up the coat and make it appear fuller and thicker. However, the bobble ends actually pull the coat.

Uses of Combing, Besides removing knots and lifting the coat.

Yes, there are many other uses and advantages. Combing also helps in removing litter and gunk from the coat. It makes the coat appear fully cared for and looked after (making you and your Persian cats win praises wherever they go).

Persian cats are special and it’s time that you treat yours like one!
