And for that you don’t really always have to rush to the vets, instead you can perform the practice yourself if you know the right ways to do it. Once you are well versed with the tricks, clipping cat nails would not seem as daunting as you perceive it to be. But how would you know it’s time for your kitty to declaw?
If your cat starts getting entangled in carpets and furnishings, those would be the first signs for you to gear on and conduct a cat clipping session. Cat nail clipping tools are easily available for you to have a problem free nail clipping or cat grooming session.
How to get started?
- Settle your cat anywhere either on the lap or floor, where you think you and your pet are comfortable and relaxed. Caress it well for sometime, and wrap in a soft towel if they try to drift from you.
- Hold your cat’s paw and mildly squeeze until the claws are extended. Look out for the quick in the nails now.
- Stay cautious of not getting too close to the quick. Now, keep the cutter at 45 degree angle to the nail, and clip it off neatly.
- If you observe any brittle nail, consider filing it a couple of times to smooth down any sharp edges .
- If your cat is patient enough and allows to clip the claws at one go, it’s great, but if it gets restless, let them rest for a while and you may continue and finish clipping nails later.
- Ensure that you have not left any cuts on the paws. But, if you accidentally hurt your pet, sprinkle some blood stopping powder to heal the wound.
